An Ayurvedic diet is an eating plan that provides guidelines for when, what, and how you eat to balance your doshas, boost your health, prevent or manage health issues, and maintain overall wellness. If you follow an Ayurvedic diet, you’ll eat primarily whole or minimally processed foods.
The diet is based on Indian Ayurvedic medical systems that date back many thousands of years. A fundamental Ayurvedic philosophy is that “food is medicine and medicine is food”. An ayurvedic proverb is “when diet is wrong, medicine is of no use and when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.
An Ayurvedic diet recommend, you eat according to your dominant dosha (energy type) of an individual. In a broad sense, there are three distinct types of dosha, namely Vata, Pitta and Kalpha.
