Acupuncture for Tennis Elbow and Golf Elbow:
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golf elbow (medial epicondylitis) are the form of tendinitis. Symptoms are usually elbow and arm pain. Repetitive motions are the main cause of lateral epicondylitis and medial epicondylitis. It happens due to any kind of repetitive movements such as playing sports, weightlifting, painting, typing, knitting and woodwork. The pain worsens when lifting, gripping, twisting and straightening kind of movements are involved with the wrist and arm. Conventional medical approaches for treating lateral and medical epicondylitis include physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), steroid injections and surgery. Acupuncture has an effective treatment of lateral and medial epicondylitis in TCM.
General symptoms in tennis and golf elbow are:
- Elbow pain & stiffness
- Lack of strength in wrist and elbow
- Minimal elbow movement
- Forearm tightness
- Tenderness on the lateral or medial side of the elbow.
- Hard to hold the objects
- Hard to pinch and grip the objects
In TCM, Acupuncture works on the bases of natural flow of energy in the body called qi (chi). It is throughout the meridians in the body. When the pathways of the qi (chi) are blocked then the pain begins.
To release such blockages, an Acupuncturist will insert fine sterile acupuncture needles into specific points on the body, so the flow of energy in the body are unblocked and ease the pain. Basically, this improves the blood circulation within the body, thereby speeding up the natural healing process of the injury site.
