Sports Injury and Acupuncture:
Sports injury is acute soft tissues injury referred to sprain and strain. It includes the muscles, tendons ligaments and joints capsules. It usually occurs on shoulder, elbow, wrist fingers, lumber, hip, or ankle. Manifestations includes swelling, pain, and impaired joint movement.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, acute soft tissues injury is caused by in damage to the tendons and meridians, with subsequent localised obstruction of qi and blood.
Treatment in Acupuncture
Ashi points, Auxiliary points and distal points are used in combination in Acupuncture treatment.
Auxiliary points are selected from distal points according to meridian theory, for example.
For soft tissues injury of the neck, SI3 and SJ 3 are added
For soft tissue injury of chest and hypochondriac region, Liv 3, GB 34 and SJ6 are added.
For soft tissues of mid back, Du 26 and Du 20 are added.
For soft tissues of the bilateral back, BL40 and BL60 are added.
Auricular points are used in the area corresponding to the injured regions.
Electroacupuncture may be used for 30 minutes during the sessions to reduce the pain.
