Post natal care- Abhynga treatment: When it comes to the postpartum care, Ayurveda suggests women to be treated with warmth and unctuousness as part of their therapy. This purpose can be achieved by rectifying food preparations according to the imbalance of Dosha, keeping the home warmer, providing appropriate rest and by administering daily peaceful massage with warm oil. Appropriate food preparations are aimed to support digestion, restoration and lactation. After childbirth a woman’s digestive fire is weakened and needs to be replenished. Ayurveda focuses on foods that are warm, nutritive, oily, and have sweet, sour and salty tastes, which can bring equilibrium of Vata. Post -natal care is divided in three parts:
- Psychological reassurance – “Ashwasana”: After expulsion of fetus, woman should be emotionally supported.
- Normal daily activities and therapeutic procedures -“Vihara”: It includes various regimens consisting of internal, external Ayurvedic therapies, which is beneficial in post -natal care.
- Normal diet in post- natal care – “Ahara”: Special advice is given in post-natal care regarding food and drink, which should suit to both mother and baby.
Abdominal tightening “Udaraveshtana”: After normal delivery, wrapping of abdomen with a big cloth results in getting back the abdomen to its proper place and helps in subsiding “vata” dosha. Absence of hollow space due to abdominal tightening prevents Vata Dosha from causing diseases.
Addressing above aspects of recovery are implemented by warm herbal oil massage to whole body, head, and face. Oil massage nourishes, beautify skin and body, support emotional balance and assist to bring body and uterus back to normal position. Care provided this way can assist in enjoying motherhood.
