Before you go for Dosha Analysis, it is very important to know about the basics Ayurveda philosophy of Ayurveda which are five elements, Dosha and Prakriti (constitutions).
Ayurveda/Ayurvedic Medicine is a 5000 thousand year old traditional medicine originated in India and now practiced all around the world. It is a holistic system and science that utilizes Ayurvedic treatment, Ayurvedic massage, and use of herbs, diet, yoga and life style changes.
Five element theories – Everything in the universe is made of five elements. The five element theory explain that how internal and external force are linked together. The five elements are Ether, air, fire, water and earth.
Ether (Space): Space is the medium in which all 4 elements exist. It is the Basis for our linear experience of time. Space has no physical existence; it exits only as distance which separate matter.
Air: It is the gases state, whose characteristic attribute is mobility or dynamism. Air is existence without form.
Fire: it is the power which can convert a substance from solid to liquid to gas, and vice versa.
Water: It is the liquid state of matter, whose characteristic is flux (the action of flowing). Water does not have any shape. Water is a substance without stability.
Earth: It is the solid state of matter, whose characteristic attribute is stability, fixity or rigidity. Earth is stable substance.
Five elements inside our body:
In side our body we also have these five elements in the form of three Doshas (three types of forces) which are vata, pitta and khpha. Their combination identifies as basic types energy present in everyone and everything. Since there are no single words in English that convey these concepts, so the original Sanskrit words vata, pitta and kapha are used to explain this concept. These principles can be related to the basic biology of the body.
What is Dosha: The five elements condense in to three type of force, in a pair of two like,Vata condense into ether and air, pitta condense in to fire and water and kapha condense in to earth and water.
Explanation of three doshas –Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
1. Vata Dosha: Vata is space and air elements. Vata is like the principle of kinetic energy in our body; it is the principle of movement. Mainly focus on nervous system. It controls all body movement. Recognized by the qualities of dryness, cold, lightness, roughness and mobile nature.
2. Pitta Doshas: is a fire and water element. Because fire cannot exist by itself in the human body. Nature has contained it in the liquid medium in the form of acids, enzymes and hormones. Recognized by the qualities of hot, sharp, oily, light, spreading, and liquid in nature.
3. Kapha Doshas: It is an earth and water element. It is the most stable of the three Doshas. It is present as the structure components of the body such as the bones, muscles and adipose tissues, mucous membrane and bone marrow. Recognized by the qualities of heavy, slow, soft, static, hard and gross.
How these forces are applicable inside body– for example digestive system; Vata chew, swallow, assimilate and expel food. Pitta digests and transform. Kapha control the secretion, which lubricate and protect the digestive system.
Prakriti – The Body Type (constitutions)
These systems are not only governed by the Dosha, they are also formed by them during the gestational period of an individual, as the foetal development takes place.
This brings us to another important aspect of Ayurveda – Prakriti, or the fundamental body constitution, which is unique for everyone.
Now all persons have three Dosha, which are types energy in their body, but their bodies are all different because the energy has a different level of dominance in the body physiology.
Prakriti decides the physical and mental attributes of an individual. Not only this, it also gives an accurate prognosis of diseases that can easily occur, because of his Dosha combination.
Prakriti can be calculated based on the physical examination and general questioning by an experienced by experienced Ayurvedic Physician. It can be accurately examined by the Pulse (Nadi) and tongue (Jihwa) as well. Prakriti examination is the basis of all treatment in Ayurveda. Without a proper Prakriti diagnosis, Ayurvedic treatment will be like shooting arrows in the dark.
